Mijas Pueblo lives off the day visitor: searching in English, deciding in ten minutes, comparing on photos. Mijas Costa and La Cala live off residents, many of them foreign, looking for a plumber, an accountant or a dentist and expecting to find one in their own language. Calahonda is effectively a separate town with its own local trade. One generic website speaks properly to none of the three.

The typical business here does not need a big site. It needs to appear, load, and offer a WhatsApp button that works when somebody searches at nine in the evening from a phone. That is precisely what fails on most of the sites we have reviewed in this area.

There is one local quirk worth knowing: a lot of the competition here has no website at all, only an Instagram profile or a Google listing. Mijas is one of the few parts of the coast where a properly built site still puts you ahead without a fight.

We audited 242 businesses in the province. 68 had a broken website.

Between 1 and 25 August 2026 we checked 242 businesses across Málaga and the province one at a time: direct request to the domain, certificate, DNS and ports, cross-checked from two separate networks.

Along the Fuengirola-Mijas-Calahonda strip the most common fault is not ugly design. It is the site that never adapts to a phone because a single line of code — the viewport tag — is missing, and the site that only answers over HTTP, with no certificate, so Chrome prints «Not secure» right above the contact form.

Both take minutes to get right on a new site. On an old one they often cannot be fixed without rebuilding it.

Frequently asked questions

I work across the whole area, not just Mijas. Does this still fit?

Yes, and it is worth saying so on the site. A well-structured page can rank for several towns at once when the content is real. What does not work is cloning the same page with the town name swapped — Google detects that and it drags the whole domain down.

I only have Instagram and a Google listing. Do I need a site?

The Google listing is essential and we work on it too. But it belongs to Google, not to you, and you cannot tell your full story or sell from it. The website is the part you control.
