If you've asked two or three local agencies for a quote and gotten wildly different answers — or no number at all — you're not the problem. The three price ranges you'll run into
Entry level (€490 – €1,000). This is where agencies working on WordPress with pre-built templates live, adapting text and images to an existing theme. It's a legitimate option if you need a basic, fast online presence — a one-page landing, little more — but it usually comes with limits: few pages, no self-editing panel, and dependence on plugins that need updating (and sometimes paying for) year after year.
Mid-range (€1,000 – €3,000). Most "serious" local agencies sit here, with a website plus some marketing included (basic SEO, some social media management). The price varies a lot depending on whether development is custom or still WordPress with more customization.
High end (€3,000+). Medium and large agencies with teams of 10-50+ people, full brand strategy, managed paid ad campaigns, consulting. Makes sense for businesses with an established marketing budget — less so for an SME taking its first steps online.
What almost nobody tells you: what happens after you pay
The price of the website is only half the equation. The other half is what happens when you want to change a text, upload new photos, or if something breaks:
- With a WordPress site, every plugin update is a risk that something stops working, and the "good" plugin licenses are usually paid annually.
- If you don't have a self-editing panel, any text change means emailing the agency and waiting (and sometimes paying for "minor changes").
